100 Masters – Jorja Smith

Mastered: Singing

Location: Walsall
Nomination: Peer-nominated

Jorja Smith has most recently been hitting the headlines for taking her mate, rap artist Drake, to a co-op in Walsall to buy snacks after his Birmingham date.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly he said that Jorja’s song Where Did I Go? was his “favourite track of the moment.”

But Jorja has been making her own waves in the R&B scene.  One of 15 artists selected for the BBC’s Sound of 2017 she came fourth and has already been named as one of the top 10 artists to watch in 2017 by FACT magazine.

The BBC said “Her beguiling voice takes in Corinne Bailey Rae’s wounded soul, Amy Winehouse’s quivering, colloquial jazz and ends up at Rihanna’s sultry siren – always giving the impression she has more power and range in reserve.”

Her song Blue Lights was nominated in last years Best Song Category at the MOBOs and her stylish look and amazing voice has lead to appearances in Vogue, Dazed, i-D, Fader, Elle, The Guardian, The Sunday Times, Hunger, DIY and Clash.
