OPEN CALL for Reclaim Photography Festival 2018 and their special regional Black Country project: Reclaiming Our Industrial Might

Reclaim Photography Festival returns to the West Midlands from May to June 2018. The programme will include responses to their open call: Reclaiming Our Future. They are also offering a special regional Black Country project: Reclaiming Our Industrial Might, one day pop up displays, photography events and workshops, plus gallery exhibitions and professional opportunities for young people and emerging artists.

We live in an age of rapid acceleration. Advancements in technology, globalisation and climate change are significantly reshaping our communities, cultures, politics, workplaces and fundamental values. The aim of this year’s festival is to capture the impact surrounding these accelerations, and the creative energy and problem-solving initiatives being applied to meet the challenges of our era.

Open Call: Black Country Project – RPF2018: Reclaiming Our Industrial Might
Take part in the special Black Country project RPF18: Reclaiming Our Industrial Might. A selection of images will be chosen for a special display at the Black Country Living Museum in celebration of the Museum’s 40th anniversary.

Reclaim Photography Festival returns to the West Midlands from May to June 2018. To celebrate 40 years of the Black Country Living Museum, and they’re inviting photographers to submit 4 images, for their special celebratory theme: Reclaiming Our Industrial Might. A selection of images will be chosen to form a special display at the Black Country Living Museum during their Industrial Might weekend in May 2018.

Reclaim Photography Festival are looking for images that reflect the people and places, past and present, that represent the unique industrial heritage of the Black Country. From boilers, forge anchors and hammers, to collieries, engineering and manufacturing industries; these images will represent the region’s industrial might and present-day stories.

You are encouraged to respond to this theme by submitting 4 images that represent your project, using archival, analogue or digital images, in the form of:

  • architectural photography; recording the interior and exterior of historical industrial buildings;
  • photo-journalism; documenting the industries at work;
  • portraiture; representing residents and workers in their environments;
  • street photography; capturing daily life in the Black Country region.
