Well done to everyone involved our Ceramic Garden Landmark Project which seen success in the Society’s Britain in Bloom Award for the It’s Your Neighbourhood category. Thousands turned out to enjoy a fun-filled weekend of activity in West Bromwich which included a dance piece with a red telephone box, a brand new puppet show inspired by Shakespeare and 24 giant terracotta buzzing bees. On Saturday night 600 people turn up to watch classic film Bride of Frankenstein at stunning Dudley Castle. A neglected and forgotten strip of land under the M5 motorway was transformed into a buzzing hive of creativity as part of MADE’s M5 Mile project. The project, funded by Creative Black Country, saw six local artists undertake a day long commission with a simple brief to respond to the site. The Ceramic Garden project has seen more than 1000 flowers individually sculpted, inspire by 2014’s remembrance poppy day display at the Tower of London. Richard Flatley, project co-ordinator, has overseen 500 people create the flowers, predominantly at Sandwell disability day centre Creative Arts in Oldbury, but there have been 30 other collaborative workshops across the Black Country. Imagine a meadow of beautiful bright flowers that never die. During the summer 1,200 handmade ceramic flowers will glisten in the sunshine surrounded by bees, butterflies and wildlife in a new large-scale installation produced in partnership with Creative Black Country and Sandwell disability day opportunities Creative Arts.
