Gatis shortlisted for The People’s Projects TV Competition

Gatis Growing Community project in Whitmore Reans are one of only five groups from the region to be shortlisted to compete for the public vote and win up to £50,000 of Big Lottery Fund Cash in ITV’s The People’s Projects TV Competition.

The group will make a bid for viewers support to win £50,000, with the public voting online to decide who wins the prize.

On Tuesday 21st March, Gatis Growing Community will be highlighted on ITV’s regional news programme at 6pm showcasing their outdoor and craft activities which help a wide range of people reconnect with nature and the natural world.

Maria Billington, Director said: “Our Gatis Growing Community Project is putting people at the heart of our centre.  Our ethos is people supporting people, with the aims of helping anyone using our centre to make the most of themselves and their skills, making new friends, learning new skills and supporting each other to live more lightly on the earth.  We use nature, play and food to break down barriers and reconnect people with each other and the planet.
If we win, the money will be used to offer a wide range of nature, craft, gardening and cooking activities for the local community to come and connect with others and learn new skills.  This project aims to provide something for everyone, all ages and abilities.  We will also be able to provide a training programme for our volunteer team and pay for resources to complete our outdoor kitchen area.  Combined this will see the centre develop into a truly community lead project with those accessing activities helping shape the future of the group.  But we need people to vote for us to make this vision a reality.”

Voting is now open and finishes on Monday 3rd April at noon.  You can vote for one project per region.
