Making our Mark - Meeting Our First Groups
Making our Mark is now underway in Walsall. At the beginning of July we met some of members of he first five groups who have received the project’s small grants.

We spent a lovely couple of hours at The Crossing in Walsall, making the most of the time to get to know each other and find out a little about the heritage projects they have planned.
The first groups we’re working with are Darians Dance Studio, the Romanian Community Centre, Aaiana, Lifegate, and Walsall Society of Artists. We are set to see some lovely work that celebrates the heritage of local art, cultural dance, craft and textiles.
As well as being the first chance to meet up, everyone also took part in a short training session on project management, led by Sharon from One Walsall. This is just one of the skills training sessions we will be offering to the groups as we go along. We aim to tailor training as best as possible to their needs whilst giving them valuable hints and tips that they can use going forward in this project and in any others they might choose to do later.

There was time at the end of the evening to chat a bit more, set up our dedicated What’sApp group where everyone can share ideas, ask questions, and reach out for some friendly advice when it’s needed, Next steps are the one-to-one sessions where we will find out more detail about each project, and discover what we can do best to help.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Making Our Mark celebrates the rich and diverse heritage of Walsall’s communities. Led by Creative Black Country and funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, this project gives local groups and organisations the opportunity to uncover and share their untold heritage stories. Whether it’s exploring cultural traditions, historical events, or community memories, we’re here to help you bring your stories to life!
Using money raised by National Lottery players, The National Lottery Heritage Fund supports projects that connect people and communities with the UK’s heritage. Making Our Mark is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to support communities based in Walsall to celebrate their rich and diverse heritage.
