Invitation to Tender: Creative Director (Freelance Maternity Cover)

Creative Black Country, (CBC) on behalf of Black Country Together, are looking to appoint an experienced interim Creative Director to jointly lead CBC with the Director of Operations and Development.

Creative Black Country (CBC) is led by a Core Consortium of Sandwell Council of Voluntary Organisations, Wolverhampton Voluntary Sector Council and Walsall Voluntary Action (working as Black Country Together CIC), Multistory and Black Country Touring (Arts Council England National Portfolio organisations). This consortium brings together the community and voluntary sector and the expertise of professional arts producers with a long-standing commitment to the Black Country’s creative and cultural ecology and a depth and breadth of knowledge of leading contemporary arts practice.

Key principles of the role:

Alongside the Director of Operations and Development, the Creative Director provides visible leadership to ensure that Creative Black Country develops its role as a catalyst, enabler, and facilitator of community-led arts and cultural activity, broadening participation and engagement.

To meet the challenges of this period of maternity cover, Creative Black Country is seeking an experienced interim Creative Director whose approach embodies the values and ethos of its work with communities. This will enable the programme to build on its success in forging strong partner relationships over the last five years:-

  • Inclusive - committed to addressing barriers to engagement and participation for local residents

  • Mature – understanding that productive relationships take time and patience to nurture

  • A team-player – supporting, and working effectively with, Creative Black Country colleagues and artistic partners

  • Optimistic and empowering – taking an asset-based approach and being prepared to let communities take the lead and take ownership

  • Strategic – working effectively with local partners, seeking consensus where possible, and setting realistic expectations with all stakeholders.

Fixed Fee:  £18,500 (Inclusive of VAT)
