Freelance Opportunity: Making Our Mark - Project Lead

Title: Project Lead - Walsall

Contract: Freelance Contract September 2025 – March 2027

Fixed Fee: £18,000 (80 days per year) inc VAT and expenses (pro rata for year April 2025 - March 2026)

Location: Remotely and/or hot desking in Walsall. CBC main office facilities are located at SCVO (Office 1095, UKO, Castlemill, Burnt Tree, Tipton, DY4 7UF)

Hours of work: To be self-managed and logged according to planned delivery needs

Tax and NI: This is a freelance position, and you will be responsible for making your own tax and NI contributions.

About The Project

Making our Mark is about lifting the rich and layered heritage of diverse and underrepresented communities in Walsall through a programme funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, facilitated by CBC and led by local communities. It will be based on our very successful Creative Communities model, providing tailored support for communities to develop their own projects in 3 phases - Explore, Make, Share. The aim is to stimulate the heritage sector and create a pipeline of ideas and projects, developing skills and creating a thriving heritage ecology in the area.

About the Freelance Role

This freelance role will be responsible for the development, management and delivery of Making Our Mark. You will coordinate a programme of work based on the successful existing Creative Communities Model – providing tailored support for local communities to develop their own projects in three phases Explore, Make, Mark. You will also work closely with a ‘Heritage Adviser’ providing bespoke support and ‘Community Champion’ who will act as a link to local communities. The role will sit as part of a small, dynamic, talented and well networked team delivering high impact projects across the Black Country.
