VIDEO: Wild and Wonderful - The Willenhall Writers Group

Some projects begin with an idea and end with something much bigger.

The Willenhall Writers Group has been meeting for more than a year, bringing people together to write, share stories and build confidence in their creativity. What started as a Creative Communities commission has grown into a regular group where members continue to support one another, develop their work and discover new ways to tell stories.

As part of the project, filmmaker Amy from Koru Films led a series of workshops exploring visual storytelling before creating this short film, capturing the people behind the group and what being part of it has meant to them.

Workshop lead Emma Purshouse said:

"Amy has also done several fantastic workshops with the group as part of this. Her workshop leading is excellent. This has been an absolutely brilliant opportunity."

The workshops clearly struck a chord with participants.

"The workshop was fantastic. I met one of the participants in the park today and she was still raving about it. I also had an email from another participant to say that it'd unlocked something for her with regard to her style of writing."

"Thank you so much for the brilliant workshop on Saturday, Amy. Everyone got so much from it. And you made it totally accessible for people, which was so lovely."

Watch the film to hear from the writers themselves and discover how a simple idea became a thriving creative community.
