Dudley Creates - On the High Street

During the Summer in Halesowen shoppers, residents, workers and passers-by were invited into an empty shop unit in the Cornbow Centre to participant in a pop-up studio where David Rowan and Joseph Potts, assisted by Kelly Hadley, had photography and filming equipment ready to capture people’s portraits and hear about people’s thoughts and memories of the town.

“The real impact for all involved was in meeting and talking to the people of Halesowen themselves. They were able to reflect on their lives and activity in and around the area to tell us specifically how they felt about life in 2022 as well as compared to their recent and historic experiences.”

90 people were photographed and 30 interviewed for the project. Below are some of the images from the exhibition of the portraits alongside the film that was produced.

The project was commissioned by the Dudley Creates associate producers on behalf of Creative Black Country and funded by Arts Council England.

With thanks to the Cornbow centre in Halesowen for their kind support.
