Volunteering Futures - What a Team!

The Volunteering Futures project got off to a cracking start in early February when a group of 15 new volunteers helped out at Wolverhampton Literature Festival. The group was made up of young people from our partnership with Gazebo and some students from the University of Wolverhampton, who all got stuck into the tasks asked of them - and there were plenty to do.

Setting up at Wolverhampton Community Hub

The work began on the Thursday before the event with a team turning up at the Mander Centre to get the Community Hub ready for the three -day programme of authors and events that had been pulled together by WCRFM. Tables were laid out, an art exhibition was put up, authors books displayed, the sound-system was sorted, and even the carpet got vacuumed! At the end of the day, it was off for rest and recuperation before the festival proper, and an 8:30 am start on Friday.

The volunteers helped out everywhere over the festival weekend, not only supporting the broadcast and activities for WCRFM, but also helping out at the Art Gallery, at Bantock House, and at the Arena Theatre. And, once the festival was over, there was still another day for them, helping pack everything away. Approximately 172 hours of effort was given by the volunteer team over the five days. Thank you, you were phenomenal!
