Creative Communities PODCAST: In Sandwell

Creative Communities PODCAST: In Sandwell with Stourbridge-based artist Ruth Turnball and Robert Bruce, CEO of the Dorothy Parkes Centre in Smethwick.

CBC Creative Advisor Laura chats to Ruth and Rob about the recent project that took place with the Art for Wellbeing drop-in group at the community centre.

Ruth had previously worked on a Cosy Communities project at the centre as well as going on trips to places like the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham.

For the Creative Communities project Ruth was able to meet the Art for Wellbeing group to find out what new activities they might like to do.

Ruth Says: "There was lots of discussion, and some people in the group haven’t left Sandwell in 10 years; for lots of different reasons. Everyone was enthusiastic about going on a trip with me. And because I work at the Barber Institute as a freelancer it seemed like a really good connection to make, linking Rob up with Flora (who is the learning and engagement manager there) and to see if we could arrange a visit then have a reflection session back at Dorothy Parkes and learn a new skill with air-drying clay. And that is how it started to come about.”
