You are invited to the launch of OUR COMMONWEALTH - a photography and film project celebrating some of the extraordinary people of Sandwell.

Imaginative sculptural birdhouses tell stories of migration to Birmingham and the Black Country.

U Island CIC and West Midlands based arts organisation Juneau Projects, have been working with families and individuals originally from Russia, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and the UK to create imaginative sculptural birdhouses that tell their stories of migration to the Black Country and their sense of home.

During 2020 CBC’s Creative Advisor for Sandwell, Richard, worked with Bally from the Sandwell Asian Mental Health Group to put together a calendar of positivity. With a tough year getting used to lockdowns and social distancing the members of the group worked in new ways online and via the phone to design and produce these positive messages to take us through the year ahead.

A group of young people from Sandwell have come together to produce a series of short videos and recipe cards to help inspire and support families on low incomes to create healthy meals.

Ruth Durrant is a ceramic artist/community artist who is inspired by nature and celtic knotwork. She also enjoys local history and has decided to combine both interests in to one project.
