PROJECT: Virtual MARKit
GROUP: MotherShip

MotherShip is an arts organisation that connects communities through culture and creativity. Championing women, particularly mothers and those who are newly arrived.

MARKit is a collective of newly arrived women, all mothers, who come together to learn new creative skills with the aim of making saleable products for a social enterprise. The project supports them to learn new creative skills in an accessible way for them and their children, supported by professional artists, an ESOL practitioner and a childcare practitioner.

Virtual MARKit enables sessions to happen over Zoom, providing essential contact between women in this time of isolation and increased child-caring responsibilities, and the opportunity to be creative and learn new skills in their own homes.

Participant comments:

“It helps me eliminate boredom and helps me get away from the places of depression that I have experienced. It also makes me feel that I am doing something effective. Even my son is enjoying with me.”

“MARKit project is very helpful and fan thank you for supporting us.”

“Mothership Markit is a brilliant organisation. Knowing the fact that lovely organisers thinking of me and my children is giving me hope and strength. All the materials for activities for adults and children are delivered to our doorsteps. Especially during COVID isolation it is an absolute life saver. We continued to have sessions online and stay connected with friends there. Learned new skills and kept practising English.”.
